Todd Newton: We're live on E! Tony Shalhoub, Congratulations.

Tony Shalhoub: (Tony is seated, leaning on his Emmy) Thank you. I am…I am so… so thrilled, so shocked.

Todd Newton: And you obviously look very comfortable with your new, um….

Tony Shalhoub: My new armrest. You like it?

Todd Newton: Yes, that's nice. That's nice.

Tony Shalhoub: I'm thinking about having it surgically attached.

Todd Newton: We were talking before they came to us, about how this was a tough category, a real tough category. And even you were predicting Matt LeBlanc was going to win.

Tony Shalhoub: I have to say I had a really strong feeling about it. But then my strong feelings are almost never right.

Todd Newton: Yeah. But when you throw that many talented people in one [category], it really is anybody's game.

Tony Shalhoub: It really is, especially with six people in one category, which there were only a few of those tonight, that you know it decreases your odds. And I felt like a party crasher, because we're sort of the new kid on the block and so I'm… I'm stunned.

Todd Newton: But you're not that new. It's been….

Tony Shalhoub: I'm not new. God knows I've been around. I'm talking about the show.

Todd Newton: I try to think back on all the time you've been on E! News Live and stuff on E!. It's like 12 now. But the shows been on what?

Tony Shalhoub: I'm actually pulling in a salary from E!.

Todd Newton: You're doing all right. Geez, ever since you got that parking space before Christmas we love having you around. But the shows been on… what? A couple of years now? We're on season what?

Tony Shalhoub: We're on season two. Just finished airing the uh… season two.

Todd Newton: And this has been quite a run already: talk about strong out of the gate.

Tony Shalhoub: Been a big year, big year. But it's, you know, such a great group of people to work with: Andy Breckman; the writing staff; David Hoberman, who's basically the creator, the guy who came up with this idea; the crew. I mean it's just all of these really, really hard working people who are going to just be… sucking up to me like crazy tomorrow.

Todd Newton: Yeah, that's right. Isn't that what it's all about?

Tony Shalhoub: And that's what this is all about.

Todd Newton: Now you need to raise it high. I was just going to say, because it seems like a lot of actors, they're split down the middle. For half of them, it's a destination. You know, I mean, they finally made it. They finally got their Emmy. For the other half they've got their Emmy now they're off and running. There's no stopping them. It changes their whole outlook on what they do for a living. How is it that you're going to look at it tomorrow morning?

Tony Shalhoub: I sort of… I definitely don't see it as a kind of culmination or ending, even though I've been around a little while. I really feel like there's so much more I want to do, especially now, because I'm a producer on Monk and so that… it's a real education in terms of directing, editing, story. I've just got a lot more things I want to accomplish.

Todd Newton: Now, it's all about you. Well congratulations. Enjoy the rest of this night, my friend.

Tony Shalhoub: I so appreciate this.

Tony, Monk you know you're one of our favorites. Stop by any time.

Tony Shalhoub: Shall I hold this up one more time?

Todd Newton: The higher, the better.
